Chai Tea by Twinings

  • Apr 21, 2015
  • 3 min read

Yay! It is Tea Review Tuesday and we are "going chai" again. Yes, I have a lovely classic chai tea to share with you from the renowned tea company, Twinings. I am super excited to write about this tea company that is a HUGE part of tea history and I am also excited to share yet another chai with you, as I do love them so! Quick, find a comfy place and grab your tea mugs while I describe this savory blend of Chai Tea by Twinings!

Chai Tea by Twinings

This is a fine black tea perfectly balanced with the sweet and savory spice flavors of cinnamon, cloves and ginger. I love chai tea, so I have a bit of a bias, but more so since the company that created this blend is also on my favorites list!

The Company

The founder of Twinings was a gentleman bearing the name, Thomas Twinings himself, from Painswick, Gloucestershire in England. He opened London's first known tea room at No. 216 Strand, London in 1706 which still operates today as a tea shop.

Twinings is an English Marketer of tea based in Andover, Hampshire while the brand is owned by Associated British Foods.

The company has the worlds oldest continually used company logo and occupies the same premises on the Strand since 1706! I have already made plans to visit soon and will share my visit on Tea End Blog of course, so stay tuned!

We thank you, Twinings, for your longevity and your mark on tea culture so that we too may sip happily ever after!

The Tea

This is a black tea base with chai spices, so you know exactly how I will describe the hue of this tea... yes, "amber-y" (lol). It is a dark brown, fire-y hue that is typical of black teas.

The aroma of this tea is so comforting and reinvigorating. Chai has the ability to make you feel at home, safe and warm and to also lend a kick of energy and liveliness. The scent of this tea leaves me soothed and reinvigorated with every whiff.

I absolutely love chai tea so I am some-what biased in my opinion of its taste. Without 2 teaspoons of honey, the black tea was very mild, so much so, that it was able to subdue the spices into a savory blend. The ginger and cinnamon seem to dance together in the palate even after the tea is swallowed. Quite a pleasant experience without sweetener!

Now, when I added 2 teaspoons of honey, the cinnamon and spices were accentuated at the beginning of the taste instead of dancing around after the swallow. The cinnamon also lingers a bit with the sweetness of the honey.

you need a little honey in your life...

This tea can easily be your next best sip!

I can sip this tea fleshly brewed with or without honey or with 2 teaspoons of honey adding a splash of almond milk. The almond milk turns it into a silky and refreshing beverage!

In a previous tea review, I discussed the various health benefits of chai tea.
